Current Projects
• Safe Housing Project
This project involves the regulation of unsafe housing which does not conform to statewide health and safety standards. The use of such unregulated, unsafe, untaxed dwellings not only endangers the lives of the occupants, it degrades neighborhood quality, shifts the tax burden onto others, and encourages criminal activity.
Changes to the County rules and procedures for housing permits, inspections, and enforcement have been proposed in order to address the problem. These issues and requested policy changes were presented to the County Commission in 2019, but no action has been taken. A publicity campaign to raise public awareness and support for the effort is being prepared.
Are there any examples in your neighborhood? Send us your story! The more cases we can document, the easier it will be to persuade the Commission to take action.
• Meadow Creek Park Project
The City of Monterey is actively developing the Meadow Creek Park around the Monterey lake several miles east of town. Plans include a new trail system for hiking, biking and rock climbing. Safety and security procedures for the park are discussed, in cooperation with the Friends of Meadow Creek Park group.
